Coimbatore Pottery Scene

There is an increasing demand for weekend activities for adults in Coimbatore. Currently, people are going to the movies or restaurants and calling it a day.

Over the past two years, I have observed a surge in pottery classes in Coimbatore. This indicates a real need for a creative outlet for people of various age groups. This observation gave me even more confidence in establishing Studio Genki.

I got a call from a booking platform that wanted me to list my studio on their website. They mentioned that pottery is one of the most sought-after activities in Chennai, and when they conducted an event in Coimbatore last year, it sold out quickly. This bolsters my optimism further.

If you are considering taking up pottery as a hobby or a casual side business, I guarantee that you have enough support system in the city. There are more than five studios with an electric kiln, and I myself have a gas kiln in Chinniyampalayam.

Each potter has their distinct style and approach, and they will guide you to get started in your pottery journey. At Studio Genki, I myself do wheel throwing primarily, as I find it the most interesting. Currently, I am also learning the sang-gam technique, a Korean inlay technique for decorating pots.

I perform reduction firing in my gas kiln, which yields a rustic look similar to the pots shown below.
