Soda Fired Vase 02

This is an unglazed pot fired in a soda kiln. The texture of the pot was created by chattering and pressing the tool on the clay during the trimming process to create a pronounced effect.

At a peak temperature of cone 6, soda ash is sprayed into the kiln through ports in the kiln. The glossy and orange flashing effect is created purely by the path of the flame in the kiln and the random deposition of soda on top of the pot. This is a highly labour-intensive and tricky process, producing pots that are unique all around.

This pot is unglazed, so please do not add water to the pot.
